eVETIS for veterinarians — requirements, deadlines and integration

What eVETIS is, which medicines must be reported, and when the requirements will apply to the treatment of dogs and cats.

EXPLAINER_01 / Introduction

What is eVETIS?

eVETIS is the Food and Veterinary Service’s national information system for recording data on the use of veterinary medicines. It collects information about medicines administered to animals and dispensed to owners, and is also used to meet EU requirements for collecting data on antimicrobial medicine use.[1]; [3]

TIMELINE_02 / Reporting schedule

When is eVETIS reporting mandatory?

  1. Reporting for food-producing animals

The use of antimicrobial medicines must be reported for food-producing animals: cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, sheep, goats, horses, rabbits intended for food production and certain fish species.[2]; [3]

  2. Detailed reporting becomes mandatory

For these food-producing animal categories, the complete dataset specified in Section 25 of Cabinet Regulation No. 775 must be submitted for the treatment of a specific animal or group of animals. Aggregated reporting is a transitional solution for 2026–2027.[3]; [2]

  3. Dogs and cats are added to the schedule

The implementation schedule published by the Food and Veterinary Service also provides for reporting on dogs, cats, foxes and American mink.[2]

MEDICINES_03 / Reportable medicines

Which medicines must be reported?

Mandatory reporting applies to medicines containing antimicrobial agents that are administered to animals or dispensed to an owner to complete a course of treatment.[3]; [4]; [2]

CategoryWhat it includes
Antibiotics
Medicines for treating bacterial infections
Antivirals
Medicines for treating viral infections
Antifungals
Medicines for treating fungal infections
Antiprotozoals
Medicines for treating protozoal infections

Data on other medicines may also be recorded in eVETIS, but Cabinet regulations provide this as an option rather than as part of the mandatory antimicrobial medicine reporting requirement.[3]; [1]

DATA_04 / Submitted data

What data is submitted to eVETIS?

  • +Animal or group of animals
  • +Owner or keeper
  • +Identification data
  • +Symptoms and diagnosis
  • +Medicinal product and active substance
  • +Quantity and dose
  • +Frequency of administration
  • +Treatment start and end dates
  • +Purpose of treatment
  • +Veterinarian and practice location
  • +Additional data, such as the withdrawal period or cascade use, where applicable[3]
INTEGRATION_05 / Data exchange

How does eVETIS integration work?

Treatment data already entered during a visit can become an eVETIS report without repeated manual entry.
